Plans submitted for dual-lane drive-thru at Barrow McDonald’s

Plans have been submitted to upgrade the McDonald’s restaurant at Hollywood Park in Barrow.

The proposals would change the current drive-thru into a dual-lane system. This would allow staff to take orders from customers in two lanes at the same time.

Changes aim to improve service

The new layout is designed to improve the flow of vehicles around the site. It could also shorten queues during busy periods and allow customers to place their orders more quickly.

Cars using the two ordering lanes would merge again before reaching the payment and collection windows.

Dual-lane systems are now used at many larger McDonald’s restaurants across the UK. They are designed to increase the number of orders that can be taken without creating a longer queue around the car park.

Restaurant could receive a wider revamp

The plans also include changes to the restaurant and its surrounding drive-thru area.

The Hollywood Park branch is located close to Vue Cinema, Aldi and several other shops and leisure businesses. The area can become busy, especially during evenings, weekends and school holidays.

Any work would need to be planned to limit disruption to customers and other drivers using the retail park.

Plans await a decision

The proposals have been submitted through the local planning process and have not yet received final approval.

Westmorland and Furness Council will assess the plans before deciding whether the development can go ahead.

If approved, the changes would represent a major update to one of Barrow’s busiest fast-food drive-thrus.
