Acoustic Meltdown, a popular concert series known for showcasing local acoustic talent, is returning to Barrow after a six-year break. The event will take place on Thursday, June 11, at The Derby Inn on Dalton Road. This series, which began in 2012, had to pause due to the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020.
David Duffin, the founder and organiser, explained that like many live events, Acoustic Meltdown was halted when venues closed during the pandemic. He noted, “Unfortunately, they stopped, along with all other forms of live entertainment, when the pubs closed for the Covid crisis of early 2020.” Although there were plans to revive the series, they did not materialise until now.
Event Details
The event is scheduled to start at 8pm and will feature three acts performing a blend of covers and original songs. The performers include Rick Currie, Paul Nickson, and David Duffin himself. In addition to the live acts, alt and indie music will be played between sets to enhance the atmosphere.
Significance of the Return
This Thursday’s event marks the 95th Acoustic Meltdown night since its inception in 2012. David expressed his hopes that this revival will lead to the series reaching its “magic 100th event and beyond.” The return of Acoustic Meltdown is seen as a significant moment for the local music scene.
Community Engagement
David Duffin aims for the nights to become a regular part of The Derby Inn’s entertainment calendar once again. He believes that the return of live music is vital for the community, providing a space for local artists to showcase their talents and for audiences to enjoy quality performances.
Free Admission
One of the appealing aspects of Acoustic Meltdown is that the event is free to attend. This accessibility allows more people to engage with live music and supports local artists in a welcoming environment.
