Several police teams involved in operation

MOD Police officers worked alongside members of the Copeland Police Nuclear Estates Team and Project Servator officers from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary.

Project Servator is a policing approach that uses highly visible and unpredictable deployments to identify suspicious behaviour and deter criminal activity.

Operations can include uniformed officers, specialist police teams and engagement with businesses and members of the public.

The MOD Police said its officers could operate in different locations at any time. And encouraged people to report anything that did not appear right.

“If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and let us know.”

Tens of thousands attended Dave Day

Dave Day brought large numbers of motorcyclists and visitors to Barrow and the wider Furness area on June 20.

The event was held in memory of television chef and Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers. Who was born in Barrow and died in February 2024.

The Last Ride Home included a large motorcycle procession. With people gathering to celebrate his life and raise money for charity.

The scale of the event meant additional police resources were deployed across the area to help manage crowds and maintain public safety.

PS Calladine, Barrow Project Servator Sergeant, said the operation aimed to protect both local communities and nearby defence sites.

He said: “Dave’s Day brought tens of thousands of people to the area to celebrate a much-loved figure and raise money for charity.

“Keeping our Defence sites and the communities around them safe is at the heart of everything we do – and that commitment extended to ensuring Dave’s Day remained a safe and enjoyable event for all.”

The arrest formed part of the wider security operation, although police have not suggested it was directly connected to the event itself.

Anyone who sees suspicious behaviour is encouraged to report it to police.
