Craig Rogers, 33, has been sentenced after assaulting his ex-partner, an incident recorded on a Ring doorbell camera. The assault occurred on April 17th, just days after Rogers received a community order for drink driving.
The court heard that the attack took place around 8:30pm when Rogers punched the woman, causing her to fall. Despite having visible injuries, she initially denied being assaulted and reported the incident to the police 11 days later.
Details of the Incident
Prosecutor Lee Dacre explained that the complainant, despite her injuries, claimed she had fallen while intoxicated. She had allowed Rogers to stay with her as he was homeless at the time.
Defence Argument
Defence solicitor Michael Graham described the incident as an unpleasant one but highlighted the lack of evidence linking Rogers to the injuries. He noted that the complainant did not wish to support the prosecution.
Previous Offences
Rogers had a history of offences, including a recent conviction for drink driving. He was caught with a high level of alcohol in his system while driving a vehicle without consent, a licence, or insurance.
Sentencing Outcome
Magistrates revoked Rogers’s previous community order and imposed a 12-week suspended sentence for 12 months. He is required to complete 15 rehabilitation days and undergo a six-month alcohol treatment programme.
Magistrates’ Remarks
Chair of the bench, Charles Crewdson, condemned the act of violence against a female. He expressed hope for Rogers’s rehabilitation, emphasising the need for him to stop drinking and making poor choices.
Financial Penalties
In addition to his sentence, Rogers was ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £154.
