Barrow Raiders Winger Tee Ritson Ruled Out for Season With Achilles Injury
Barrow Raiders winger Tee Ritson has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a ruptured achilles.
The 30-year-old picked up the injury during Barrow’s Cumbrian derby win at Workington on Sunday, June 7.
Ritson had scored a hat-trick in the match and believes the injury may have happened as he was going over while trying to score a fourth.
He is due to see a specialist next week to discuss the next steps in his recovery.
Injury Happened During Derby Win
The injury came during Barrow Raiders’ 56-12 win over Workington Town at the Fibrus Community Stadium.
Ritson was one of the standout performers in the game, crossing for three tries as Barrow produced a dominant derby display.
However, the winger later realised something was wrong after the match.
He said he did not realise until a couple of hours after the game that there was a problem.
The diagnosis has now confirmed a ruptured achilles, ending his season early.
Milestone Put on Hold
The injury is a major blow for Ritson, who had been closing in on a significant Barrow Raiders milestone.
He has scored 98 tries for the club and was just two short of reaching 100.
Had he scored two in his next three games, he would have become the fastest player to reach a century of tries for the Raiders.
That milestone will now have to wait until next season.
Setback for Raiders
Ritson’s injury is also a setback for Barrow as they continue their Championship campaign.
His pace, finishing ability and attacking threat have made him one of the club’s most dangerous players.
The winger has been a key figure for the Raiders and has remained a popular player with supporters.
Even though he will not be playing again this season, Ritson has said he still plans to watch the team in action as much as possible.
Return to Barrow
Ritson returned to Barrow after time with St Helens.
He had previously built a strong reputation with the Raiders, becoming known for his try-scoring record and speed on the wing.
His return was seen as an important boost for the club, and his injury will be a disappointment for both the player and supporters.
Recovery Now the Focus
Ritson will now wait for specialist advice before a recovery plan is confirmed.
Achilles injuries can require a long rehabilitation period, depending on the severity of the rupture and the treatment route chosen.
For now, the focus will be on his recovery and making sure he can return safely.
The Raiders winger is expected to miss the remainder of the season, with hopes that he can return next year and continue his push towards 100 tries for Barrow.
