Why Some Orders Say 18 Months
Some road closure notices say the legal order can last for up to 18 months.
This does not usually mean the road will be closed for the full 18 months. It gives the council and contractors legal flexibility if works are delayed.
Delays can happen because of:
- Bad weather
- Utility issues
- Unexpected problems under the road
In most cases, the closure only applies when signs are displayed on site.

- Leave extra time for journeys
