Barrow Town Centre Business Issued Closure Notice After Police Operation
A business in Barrow town centre has been issued with a closure notice following a recent police operation.
Cumbria Police said the action was taken in response to anti-social behaviour and disorder linked to the premises.
The business has not been publicly identified. Police have also not confirmed its exact location or how long the closure will remain in place.
Action Taken to Protect Local Community
Officers said the notice was issued to stop further problems and reduce the impact the reported behaviour was having on people in the surrounding area.
In a statement, Cumbria Police said: “This action demonstrates our ongoing commitment to working with partners to tackle anti-social behaviour, reduce harm, and help keep our communities safe.”
No details have been released about any arrests, charges or items recovered during the operation.
What Is a Closure Notice?
Closure notices can be used by the police or a local authority when a premises is linked to nuisance or disorder.
Under current anti-social behaviour legislation, a notice can restrict access to a property for up to 48 hours. Access may be banned completely or limited to certain people.
Authorities can then apply to a magistrates’ court for a longer closure order. A court can grant an initial order lasting up to three months when it believes this is needed to prevent further disorder, anti-social behaviour or criminal activity.
Cumbria Police has not said whether it intends to seek a longer closure order against the unidentified Barrow business.
