Barrow AFC Sign Defender Thierry Latty-Fairweather Ahead of New Season
Barrow AFC have completed the signing of left-sided defender Thierry Latty-Fairweather ahead of the 2026/27 National League season.
The 23-year-old joins the Bluebirds after leaving FC Halifax Town, where he made 35 appearances during the previous campaign.
Latty-Fairweather becomes the latest addition to Adam Murray’s squad as Barrow prepare to begin their season away against Hartlepool United on Saturday, August 8.
The length of his Barrow contract has not been announced.
Who Is Thierry Latty-Fairweather?
Born in Birmingham, Latty-Fairweather is a 6ft 3in defender who can play at left-back or on the left side of a three-man defence.
Despite being only 23, he has already completed more than 10,000 minutes of senior football. His career has included spells in the English Football League, National League and National League North.
Latty-Fairweather spent part of his youth career with Nottingham Forest before joining Burton Albion’s academy in 2019.
He later gained first-team experience during loan spells with:
- Grantham Town
- Guiseley
- Hereford
The defender made his League One debut for Burton Albion in April 2023. He played the full 90 minutes as Burton drew 0-0 away to Cheltenham Town.
He was released by Burton at the end of the 2022/23 campaign before signing for York City.
Experience With York, Maidenhead and Halifax
Latty-Fairweather made 24 appearances in all competitions during his first season with York City.
He also scored twice in the National League, including his first York goal during a 3-0 home victory over Southend United.
The following season, he joined Maidenhead United on loan. An initial short-term agreement was extended after he became a regular member of the team.
He went on to make 39 appearances in all competitions for Maidenhead during the 2024/25 season.
After leaving York, Latty-Fairweather signed for FC Halifax Town in July 2025. He featured 35 times as the Shaymen finished eighth in the National League, narrowly missing out on a place in the play-offs.
Halifax confirmed that the defender had mutually agreed to leave the club before completing his move to Barrow.
What Could He Bring to Barrow?
Latty-Fairweather will give Adam Murray another option on the left side of Barrow’s defence.
His ability to play as a traditional left-back or as part of a back three could allow the manager to change formation during matches.
At 6ft 3in, he also adds height to the squad. However, Barrow have particularly highlighted his athleticism, versatility and previous National League experience.
That experience may prove valuable as the Bluebirds adjust to life back in the fifth tier following their relegation from League Two.
Although Latty-Fairweather has played most of his football outside the EFL, he arrives with experience of competing for clubs at different levels and under several tactical systems.
He has also played regularly during the last two seasons, recording a combined 70 National League appearances for Maidenhead and Halifax.
Barrow Prepare for Hartlepool Opener
The signing was confirmed shortly before Barrow’s first National League match of the season.
Adam Murray’s side will travel to Victoria Park to face Hartlepool United on Saturday, August 8.
Barrow will be looking to make a positive start as they aim to rebuild following a difficult 2025/26 campaign.
Latty-Fairweather’s arrival strengthens the club’s defensive options before the season begins, although it has not yet been confirmed whether he will be available to make his debut against Hartlepool.
The club has also announced that player sponsorship packages for the defender are available during the 2026/27 season.
