Barrow Town Hall council chamber restored to its ‘full glory’
The council chamber at Barrow Town Hall has reopened after restoration work returned the historic room to its former glory.
The project was completed earlier this month, while the rest of the town hall remained open and in full use.
Meetings, public services and community events continued throughout the work, with equipment and facilities moved where needed to keep disruption to a minimum.
Restoration completed at no extra cost
Barrow Town Council said the work was completed without any additional cost to the authority.
A council spokesperson praised the town hall team for its hard work and resourceful approach during the project.
They said the restoration showed the commitment of those involved in preserving the building while keeping it available to residents and local groups.
Mayor welcomes chamber’s return
The Mayor of Barrow, Councillor Kay Hyland, welcomed the completion of the work.
She said Barrow Town Council was proud to conduct its business inside such a historic building.
Councillor Hyland added that it was “wonderful” to see the chamber restored and once again being used for its intended purpose.
The room will now continue to serve the council, while also being available for wider community use.
Town hall remained busy during work
The town hall continued to host a range of events and activities while the chamber was being restored.
The council said this highlighted the important role the building still plays in Barrow.
Community groups, residents and local organisations regularly use its rooms and facilities.
The council thanked everyone who helped complete the restoration and said it hoped the chamber would be enjoyed for many years to come.
