The Walk This Way festival is set to return to Barrow from July 20 to July 26. This event encourages residents to engage in free themed walks around the town. Following the success of last year’s inaugural festival, the programme has been expanded to include more activities and themes.

Festival Details

Participants can sign up for the walks via the Travel Actively website. Each day of the festival will feature at least one organised walk. This variety ensures that there is something for everyone, regardless of their walking experience or ability.

Themed Walks

This year, the festival will include exciting themes. For instance, one walk will have a spy theme, while another will involve a treasure hunt for Viking artefacts in Barrow Park. Such themes aim to make walking more engaging and fun for participants.

Community Focus

Andrew Haslop, the project officer for Travel Actively Barrow, expressed enthusiasm about the festival’s return. He highlighted that the event is not just about walking; it is also about fostering community spirit. Haslop stated, “We want everyone to feel welcome to take part,” reinforcing the festival’s inclusive nature.

Benefits of Walking

Walking is a simple yet effective way to improve physical health and mental well-being. The festival aims to help people discover the joy of walking, whether through scenic routes or leisurely social strolls. It provides an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while connecting with others.
