Kirby’s Duddon Valley Medical Practice to Close

Duddon Valley Medical Practice sign

Duddon Valley Medical Practice (DVMP) has confirmed that its Kirkby-in-Furness surgery will close on July 31st, 2026. This decision follows the sale of the building by its owner. Despite this closure, DVMP reassures patients that its Broughton and Askam surgeries will continue to operate and provide essential medical services.

Reasons for Closure

The decision to close the Kirkby surgery was made after careful consideration. DVMP had the opportunity to buy the building but opted against it. This choice was made to enhance the practice’s economic resilience. And ensure stability for both patients and staff during challenging economic times.

Impact on Patients

With the closure of the Kirkby site, DVMP will operate with two surgeries instead of three. The practice aims to maintain the same level of care at its remaining locations. Patients are encouraged to utilise the Broughton and Askam surgeries for their medical needs.

Reassurance from DVMP

A spokesperson for DVMP has emphasised that the practice is not closing entirely. They highlighted that rural medical practices are facing closures across the country, yet DVMP is committed to remaining operational. They will provide updates regarding the transition from three sites to two in the coming months.

Communication with Patients

DVMP has requested that patients refrain from distracting staff with inquiries about the closure. They assure that further information will be shared soon to alleviate any concerns during this transition period. The practice aims to keep communication clear and supportive for all patients.
