More Than 400 Crimes Recorded Across Barrow, Dalton and Ulverston

Newly published crime figures show that more than 400 crimes were recorded across Barrow, Dalton and the wider Ulverston policing area in April 2026.

The latest Police.uk figures cover Barrow Central and Hindpool, Barrow Island and Walney, Dalton, and Ulverston, Coniston, Low Furness and High Furness.

Across the four areas, there were 404 crimes recorded during the month.

Barrow Central and Hindpool recorded the highest number of crimes, followed by the wider Ulverston area. Barrow Island and Walney recorded fewer offences than both of those areas, while Dalton had the lowest total.

Violence and sexual offences remained the most commonly reported crime type across all four areas.

Barrow Central and Hindpool Recorded 176 Crimes

Barrow Central and Hindpool recorded the highest number of crimes in April, with 176 offences.

The most commonly reported crime type was violence and sexual offences, with 76 reports.

The top reported crimes in Barrow Central and Hindpool were:

This means violence and sexual offences made up a large share of the crimes recorded in the area.

Shoplifting was also a notable issue, with 24 reports during the month. Public order offences were close behind, with 22 reports.

Criminal damage and arson was the fourth most common category, with 16 offences recorded.

Although Barrow Central and Hindpool remained the busiest area for recorded crime, the April total was lower than March, when 207 crimes were recorded.

Ulverston Area Recorded 127 Crimes

The wider Ulverston, Coniston, Low Furness and High Furness policing area recorded 127 crimes in April.

This was the second-highest total among the four areas covered.

Violence and sexual offences were again the most common type of report, accounting for more than half of the area’s total.

The April figure also shows a rise from March, when the wider Ulverston area recorded 96 crimes.

Public order offences, criminal damage and arson, and other theft were the next most common crime types.

Barrow Island and Walney Recorded 62 Crimes

Barrow Island and Walney recorded 62 crimes in April.

This was lower than the March total, when 75 crimes were recorded in the area.

The most commonly reported crime type was violence and sexual offences, with 29 reports.

While the overall number of crimes was lower than in Barrow Central and Hindpool, violence and sexual offences still made up a significant share of the total.

Public order offences and criminal damage and arson were also among the main issues recorded during the month.

Dalton Recorded 39 Crimes

Dalton recorded the lowest number of crimes among the areas covered, with 39 offences in April.

The most commonly reported crime type was violence and sexual offences, with 21 reports.

This means violence and sexual offences accounted for more than half of the crimes recorded in Dalton.

Anti-social behaviour and other theft each had four reports, while criminal damage and arson had three.

Dalton’s April total was lower than March, when 51 crimes were recorded.

Violence and Sexual Offences Remain the Biggest Category

Violence and sexual offences were the most commonly reported crimes in every area covered.

Across all four areas, there were 193 violence and sexual offences recorded in April.

This category does not mean every offence involved serious violence. It is a broad Police.uk category and can include a range of incidents, from harassment and common assault to more serious offences.

Even so, the figures show that this remains the most common type of recorded crime across Barrow, Dalton and Ulverston.

How April Compared With March

Across the four areas, the total number of crimes fell from 429 in March to 404 in April.

However, the picture was mixed.

Barrow Central and Hindpool, Barrow Island and Walney, and Dalton all recorded fewer crimes than in March.

The wider Ulverston area recorded an increase, rising from 96 crimes in March to 127 in April.

What the Figures Show

The figures show that Barrow Central and Hindpool continues to record the highest number of crimes among the local areas covered.

The wider Ulverston area had the second-highest total and saw the clearest rise compared with March.

Barrow Island and Walney recorded a lower total than the previous month, while Dalton remained the lowest of the four areas.

Across all areas, the same pattern remains clear. Violence and sexual offences were the most common reports, followed by a mixture of public order offences, shoplifting, criminal damage and theft.
