Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was injured in a collision with a pickup vehicle near the A69.
The crash happened near the major route, which connects Carlisle with Newcastle and is used by a mix of cars, vans, HGVs and cyclists. Officers are now asking anyone who saw the collision, or who has dashcam or other footage from the area, to come forward.
The cyclist was injured in the incident. Police have not released full details of the injuries in the information currently available, but an appeal has been launched as officers work to establish the circumstances of the crash.
Police appeal for information
Officers are asking people who were in the area around the time of the collision to check whether they may have seen anything that could help the investigation.
This could include drivers, cyclists, pedestrians or nearby residents who noticed either the cyclist or the pickup vehicle before or after the crash.
Dashcam footage may also be useful, even if it does not show the collision itself. Footage from nearby roads can help police understand traffic movements and identify possible witnesses.
Busy route used by many types of traffic
The A69 is one of the main routes across the north of England, carrying traffic between Cumbria, Northumberland and the North East.
Roads around the A69 can be busy, especially where local traffic joins faster-moving vehicles. For cyclists, collisions involving larger vehicles can lead to serious injuries because they have far less protection than people inside cars or vans.
Police investigations into crashes like this often look at road layout, visibility, vehicle movements, weather conditions and whether any camera footage is available.
Anyone with footage asked to come forward
Anyone who was travelling near the scene, or who has dashcam, helmet camera or CCTV footage from the area, is being urged to contact police.
Information can usually be passed to police through 101 or the force’s online reporting system. Anyone reporting information should include the incident reference if one has been provided.
The appeal remains ongoing while officers continue to piece together what happened.
