Animal Welfare Furness is dedicated to helping animals, particularly through its cattery located on Rawlinson Street in Barrow. To support the cats in their care, the charity has initiated several fundraising activities.
One successful event was an Easter tombola held at Pets at Home, which raised £800. Additionally, the charity’s shop on Dalton Road has reduced all item prices to £2, a promotion running from April 1st to April 15th. This initiative has increased customer visits and boosted sales.
Postponed Charity Walk
A charity walk from Ulverston to Barrow was planned but has been postponed for now. A spokesperson for the charity emphasised the importance of donations for their operations, especially given the rising cost of living affecting many charities.
New Leadership and Fresh Ideas
The charity has recently undergone a leadership change, introducing a new board of trustees and a chairman. This fresh leadership aims to bring innovative fundraising ideas to support the cattery.
Challenges in Relocating the Cattery
There were hopes to relocate the cattery to a new site; however, the charity lost out on their preferred property at auction. Currently, the focus remains on the welfare of the cats, with relocation plans temporarily on hold.
Community Support
The staff and volunteers have worked diligently to raise funds amid these changes. The spokesperson acknowledged their efforts and highlighted the support from Pets at Home as invaluable during this period.
