Horse and Rider Injured Following HGV Incident on A595 Near Workington
A horse and its rider suffered minor injuries following an incident involving a heavy goods vehicle on the A595 near Workington.
The incident happened at around 1pm on Saturday, August 1, near Oily’s at Winscales, close to Lillyhall.
Police said the horse and rider both fell to the ground as the HGV passed them. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been confirmed.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses and asking anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
Members of the Public Stopped to Help
Two members of the public reportedly witnessed the incident and stopped to assist the rider.
Ambulance crews who were already nearby also provided help following the fall.
Both the rider and horse are understood to have suffered minor injuries. No further details have been released about their condition.
Police Release Description of HGV and Driver
Police have issued a description of the vehicle and driver they would like to identify.
The HGV was described as a cab wagon with right-hand drive. It was said to be white or cream, with red writing on the rear.
The driver was described as a small man with a slim build. He was believed to be bald, with grey hair around the sides of his head.
Police have not confirmed whether the driver was aware that the horse and rider had fallen.
Witnesses and Drivers Urged to Contact Police
Anyone travelling along the A595 in the Winscales and Lillyhall area at around 1pm on August 1 is being asked to review any dashcam footage they may have.
Police would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or recognises the description of the HGV.
