Kendal Calling 2026: Entry Rules and What You Can Bring

Thousands of festivalgoers are arriving at Lowther Deer Park as Kendal Calling returns from Thursday, July 30 to Sunday, August 2.

Before entering the festival, visitors are being encouraged to check the rules carefully. Some items are allowed in the campsite but cannot be taken into the main arena.

There are also strict rules covering alcohol, glass, cooking equipment, chairs, food and reusable water bottles.

What Can You Bring to Kendal Calling?

The festival has different rules for its campsites and arena.

Items currently allowed in the campsite include:

  • Aerosols
  • Cans
  • Food and soft drinks
  • Empty reusable water bottles
  • Compact mirrors
  • Small hammers for pitching tents
  • Cooking knives for campsite use
  • Single-burner gas stoves
  • Personal audio and video recording equipment
  • Alcohol in cans or plastic containers
  • Solid firelighters

Alcohol must be brought into the campsite during a person’s first entry to collect their wristband. Festivalgoers are asked to bring only a reasonable amount for their own use.

Glass bottles and containers are not allowed anywhere on the site. This includes glass perfume and aftershave bottles.

The glass ban helps protect visitors and the deer that live within Lowther Deer Park.

What Can Be Taken into the Arena?

The arena has tighter restrictions than the campsite.

Festivalgoers can take the following items into the arena:

  • Sealed soft drink bottles or cartons of 500ml or less
  • Small snacks for personal use
  • Empty reusable water bottles
  • Personal cameras and recording equipment

Reusable bottles must be empty when visitors enter the arena. They can then be filled at water points inside.

Suitable snacks include fruit, chocolate, crisps and cereal bars. Larger amounts of food should remain in the campsite.

Alcohol purchased or brought into the campsite cannot be taken into the arena. Drinks are available from bars around the festival site.

Barbecues Banned Due to Dry Conditions

Disposable and charcoal barbecues are not permitted at Kendal Calling in 2026.

Organisers announced the restriction after prolonged warm and dry weather left the grass at Lowther Deer Park extremely dry.

Campfires, blowtorches, liquid fuels and Chinese lanterns are also banned.

Small gas camping stoves and suitable gas barbecues can still be used in the campsite, provided their gas canisters meet the festival’s size restrictions. Visitors should follow the latest instructions from stewards because fire-safety rules may change in response to conditions.

Which Items Are Completely Banned?

A number of items cannot be taken into either the campsite or the arena.

These include:

  • Glass bottles and containers
  • Disposable or charcoal barbecues
  • Campfires and blowtorches
  • Fireworks and flares
  • Chinese lanterns
  • Gazebos and portable toilets
  • Selfie sticks
  • Walkie-talkies and two-way radios
  • Weapons
  • Liquid fuel
  • Illegal drugs
  • Nitrous oxide
  • Poppers and other psychoactive substances
  • Animals, apart from registered assistance dogs

Trailers are also not permitted within the festival car parks.

Chairs and Picnic Blankets in the Arena

Festivalgoers can bring chairs and picnic blankets, but new restrictions apply around the Main Stage.

Chairs and blankets should be kept behind the sound tower. They are not permitted directly in front of the sound tower or in the area in front of Oktoberfest.

Visitors should not use chairs or blankets to reserve spaces. Organisers may also ask people to fold them away when the Main Stage field becomes busy.

Long rows of chairs should be avoided so other visitors can move safely through the crowd.

Ticket and Age Rules

Entry is only available to people who purchased tickets in advance. Tickets will not be sold at the festival gates.

Children and teenagers must have a ticket that matches their age when the festival begins.

Young people aged 11 to 15 must:

  • Be accompanied by a ticket-holding parent or guardian aged 21 or over
  • Camp in the same area as their family
  • Be accompanied in the arena after 10pm

People aged 16 or 17 who are entering on an adult ticket will need valid identification if they are attending without an adult.

Children aged five or under can attend using an infant ticket, but they must remain with a parent or guardian at all times.

Accepted Forms of Identification

Kendal Calling accepts the following valid and in-date identification:

  • Full driving licences
  • Provisional driving licences
  • Passports
  • CitizenCards

Photocopies and birth certificates are not accepted as proof of age.

Visitors May Be Searched

Security teams will conduct searches as part of the festival’s safety and licensing arrangements.

Ticket holders may be asked to allow security staff to search their possessions or vehicle. Anyone who refuses a search may be denied entry or removed from the festival without a refund.

People carrying banned items may also have those items confiscated and could be refused admission.

Check the Rules Before Travelling

Kendal Calling is taking place at Lowther Deer Park between July 30 and August 2, 2026.

Festivalgoers should check the latest official guidance before travelling, particularly because rules relating to fire safety, cooking equipment and site conditions can change.

Keeping restricted items at home should make searches quicker and help visitors enter the festival without unnecessary delays.
