On February 16th, a teenager in Kendal was caught with cannabis outside a Marks & Spencer store. Stefan Campbell, 18, was arrested after police noticed suspicious activity in the area.

During the incident, two other individuals fled the scene. However, Campbell was searched and found to have a small quantity of cannabis, which was deemed for personal use.

Court Proceedings

At South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court, prosecutor Peter Kelly detailed the events leading to Campbell’s arrest. The court was informed that police considered an out-of-court disposal for the offence.

However, Campbell did not attend the police station as required, leading to further legal action. He pleaded guilty to possession of Class B cannabis at the earliest opportunity.

Sentence and Costs

The court sentenced Campbell to a six-month conditional discharge. Additionally, he was ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £26 victim surcharge.

Background Information

This case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding cannabis possession laws in the UK. While personal use remains a contentious topic, legal consequences can arise from even small amounts.

Campbell, who has no prior convictions, now faces the implications of this incident on his future.
