Amma Lewis, a 23-year-old from Kendal, created multiple social media accounts in her ex-partner’s name, causing significant distress. This behaviour occurred between September 5th and October 10th last year, as reported in South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, Lee Dacre, revealed that the posts made on these accounts included hurtful messages aimed at the victim. One such post stated, “You’re a nasty piece of work. No one likes you. Not even your own family.” The relationship between Lewis and her ex-partner lasted from August 2024 to February 2025.
Impact on the Victim
The victim shared in a statement that the harassment had worsened his anxiety. The distress caused by the fake accounts was significant, leading to a negative impact on his mental health.
Court Proceedings
During the court proceedings, it was noted that Lewis had no prior convictions. She pleaded guilty to one count of harassment without violence. The court’s decision to adjourn the sentencing was influenced by the need for a pre-sentence report.
Background of the Offender
In her defence, Elizabeth Fawcett explained that Lewis believed her ex-partner wanted to rekindle their relationship. However, upon discovering he was in a new relationship, Lewis’s mental health issues contributed to her actions. She has been diagnosed with autism, anxiety, depression, and emotional unstable personality disorder (EUPD).
Remorse and Current Situation
Lewis expressed deep remorse for her actions and acknowledged the planning involved in creating the fake accounts. She is currently receiving universal credit and Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
Next Steps
The magistrates have granted Lewis conditional bail and will reconvene for sentencing on May 21st. The court aims to consider all aspects of the case before making a final decision.
