Keswick to Barrow 2026: Schedule & Road Closures

The Keswick to Barrow (K2B) walk is scheduled for Saturday, May 9th, 2026. This event, along with the shorter Coniston to Barrow (C2B) route, aims to raise funds for various charities. Last year, participants raised an impressive £605,550. And organisers hope to surpass this amount in 2026!

Road Closures for Safety

To ensure the safety of all participants, several road closures will be in effect during the event. These closures are designed to protect walkers and volunteers throughout the duration of the walk.

Confirmed Road Closures

  • A591 Dunmail Raise (northbound) – 5.30am to 10am
  • U5005 Far End – 6am to 2.30pm
  • C5005 Shepherds Bridge Lane, Coniston – 6am to 2.30pm
  • U5002 Stang Point to Coniston – 7am to 1pm
  • C5018 Coniston – 7am to 4pm
  • C5004 Elterwater – 7am to 11.30am
  • C6001 Broughton Road, Dalton-in-Furness – 8.30am to 9pm

Alternative Routes and Access

Signed diversions will guide drivers through surrounding routes, including A595, A593, A5084, B5285, and B5343. Access for emergency vehicles and a pathway for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

Additional Restrictions

In addition to road closures, there will be restrictions on waiting and loading in Barrow on May 8th and 9th. The affected areas include:

  • Clovelly Terrace (both sides)
  • Hartland Road (both sides)
  • Hawcoat Lane – Cowlarns Close to Wheatclose Road

History of the Event

The K2B walk has a rich history, dating back to 1967. It began as a friendly competition between submarine crew members and shipyard workers. Over the years, it has evolved into a significant fundraising event that brings together teams of four to twelve people.
