Local volunteers, organisations and community champions have been recognised at this year’s Love Barrow Awards, celebrating the people who make a difference across the Furness area.

More than 700 nominations were submitted across several categories, highlighting individuals and groups who go above and beyond to support their communities. The winners were announced during an awards ceremony held at the Abbey House Hotel and Gardens in Barrow.

Ambassador of the Year

One of the top honours of the evening, Ambassador of the Year, was awarded to Pat Chapples.

Chapples has spent more than 35 years supporting the Furness Homeless Support Group, helping it grow from a small day centre into an organisation that now provides supported accommodation across multiple properties and runs a charity shop.

Despite stepping down as manager after turning 70, she continues to play an active role as deputy manager.

Speaking after receiving the award, she said she had only attended the event as a guest and was shocked to be announced as the winner.

Public Vote and Community Recognition

The People’s Choice Award went to Ellie Walker, with nearly 2,600 votes cast by the public to decide the winner.

Organisers say the awards are designed to recognise individuals and organisations whose efforts often go unnoticed but make a real difference locally.

Chair of the Love Barrow Awards committee DT Guest said the event celebrates people who dedicate their time to helping others.

Organisers thanked sponsors and supporters who helped make the event possible, as well as staff at the Abbey House Hotel for hosting the ceremony.

Celebrating the Community

The Love Barrow Awards are organised by a community interest company dedicated to celebrating the people and organisations that strengthen the Furness and South Lakes community.

With hundreds of nominations each year, the awards continue to highlight the efforts of volunteers, charities, teachers, carers and local businesses working to improve life across the area.
