Lane Closure Near Asda Causes Major Delays on A590 in Barrow

Drivers are facing major delays on the A590 in Barrow after a collision led to a lane closure near Asda.

Long queues have formed along Walney Road, with traffic moving slowly both into and out of Barrow. The disruption is also affecting nearby junctions and roads around the Hindpool Retail Park.

Traffic Building in Both Directions

The closure is in place on one of Barrow’s busiest sections of road. The A590 provides the main route between the town centre, Walney and communities outside Barrow.

Although reports initially highlighted delays for drivers heading into the town, motorists travelling in the opposite direction have also faced long waits.

Congestion near Asda can quickly spread across the surrounding road network. Traffic joining Walney Road from Hindpool Road, Ironworks Road and neighbouring retail areas may also experience delays.

Drivers heading towards Dalton, Ulverston or the wider Furness area are advised to leave extra time for their journey.

Collision Reported Near Asda

The disruption follows a crash on the A590 close to Asda. A lane closure was introduced while the incident was dealt with.

The exact circumstances of the collision have not yet been confirmed. It is also unclear whether anyone was injured.

The remaining open lane has had to handle traffic travelling along this busy route, resulting in queues building in both directions.

Limited Alternative Routes

Barrow’s location means there are few practical alternatives when part of the A590 becomes blocked. Drivers attempting to avoid Walney Road may instead add to congestion across residential streets and other routes through the town.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area where possible and delay non-essential journeys until traffic begins to clear. Anyone who must travel should allow extra time and approach the lane closure with care.

Traffic conditions may change quickly once the vehicles involved have been recovered and the affected lane is reopened.
