Man Arrested Following Assault Near Ormsgill Inn
A 60-year-old man from Barrow has been arrested after a 40-year-old woman was assaulted outside The Ormsgill Inn on Park Road in Barrow.
The incident happened on Wednesday, April 22, between 4pm and 7pm. Police said the woman was left unconscious on the ground and suffered injuries to her head and eye, including swelling and bruising.
The man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
Police appeal for two people who helped woman
Cumbria Police are now trying to trace two members of the public who helped the injured woman after the assault.
Officers said the two people assisted the woman while she was unconscious on the floor. They then took her to a chemist on Ainslie Street in Barrow-in-Furness in their car.
Police believe the pair may have important information that could help the investigation. They are being urged to come forward, along with anyone else who saw what happened outside the pub.
Woman suffered head and eye injuries
The victim, a 40-year-old woman from Barrow, sustained injuries to her eye and head. These included swelling and bruising.
The assault happened outside The Ormsgill Inn, a pub on Park Road in the Ormsgill area of Barrow. The area is close to homes, local shops and passing traffic, meaning police are hoping people may have seen something during the three-hour time window.
The incident is being treated as an assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Man released on bail
Following the incident, a 60-year-old man from Barrow was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He has since been released on bail. This means the police investigation is still ongoing and no charge has been reported at this stage.
Police have not named the man who was arrested.
