Man Charged After Death of Eight-Year-Old Boy in Cumbria Farm Shooting
A man has been charged with gross negligence manslaughter following the death of an eight-year-old boy in a shooting at a farm in Cumbria.
Jay Cartmell suffered a fatal head injury when a gun was discharged at a property in Warcop on 28 September 2024, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
Court Appearance Scheduled
Allan Thursby, 64, of Cleator Moor, has now been charged in connection with the incident.
He is due to appear at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on 26 March, where the case will begin to be heard.
CPS Statement
The CPS confirmed the decision to bring charges followed a police investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Malcolm McHaffie, from the CPS, said it was in the public interest to proceed with criminal charges.
He added that the organisation’s thoughts remain with the family of Jay Cartmell.
