Paramedics Called to Medical Incident at Barrow Magistrates’ Court
Paramedics were called to South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court in Barrow following a medical incident on Monday, 10 August.
The incident happened inside the court building on Abbey Road. North West Ambulance Service received a call at 11.56am and sent medical staff to the scene.
The patient was assessed but did not need to be taken to hospital.
Incident Reported Inside Court Toilets
Witnesses reported seeing court security staff enter the men’s toilets during the emergency. Full details about what happened or the condition that caused the incident have not been released.
A defendant who was present later returned to the courtroom and appeared distressed by what he had witnessed.
He told the court: “I’ve just saved a man’s life. I shouldn’t have had to see that.”
His comments suggest he may have provided help during the emergency. However, the exact circumstances and the actions taken before paramedics arrived have not been officially confirmed.
Court Case Adjourned After Incident
The medical emergency also disrupted proceedings at the magistrates’ court.
After returning to the courtroom, the defendant’s case was adjourned. This brought the hearing to an end and allowed those involved time to recover following the distressing incident.
No further information has been released about when the case will return to court.
Patient Did Not Require Hospital Treatment
North West Ambulance Service confirmed that its team attended the court after receiving the call shortly before midday.
Although the arrival of paramedics raised concerns among those at the court, the patient did not require hospital treatment. No further details have been provided due to medical privacy.
South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court deals with criminal and other legal cases from Barrow and across the Furness area. It remained unclear whether any proceedings beyond the adjourned case were affected.
