Barrow Residents Told to Take Recycling Back In After Missed Collection
Residents in parts of Barrow have been told to take their recycling back inside after a council collection round was not completed.
Westmorland and Furness Council said crews were unable to collect all recycling from areas around Abbey Road and Abbotsmead Approach on the morning of Thursday, August 13.
The council has apologised but confirmed that it will not return before the next planned recycling round.
Affected households will therefore need to wait until Thursday, August 27 for their recycling to be collected.
What Residents Need to Know
| Collection information | Details |
|---|---|
| Areas affected | Abbey Road and Abbotsmead Approach |
| Missed collection | Thursday, August 13 |
| Next collection | Thursday, August 27 |
| What residents should do | Take recycling back in until the next collection |
Residents should not leave their recycling containers on the pavement for the full two-week period.
They should bring them back onto their property and put them out again for the next scheduled collection. Bins, bags and boxes should normally be placed outside by 6am on collection day.
Council Apologises for Missed Round
The council said it had been unable to complete the recycling round but did not provide a reason for the disruption.
A council spokesperson said: “We couldn’t collect all the recycling on our round this morning, apologies for the inconvenience caused.
“We will collect again on your next scheduled recycling collection date, Thursday 27 August. Please take your recycling back in.”
The update means there will be no additional catch-up round for the affected streets.
Recycling May Build Up Before Next Collection
The missed round could leave some households storing up to four weeks of recycling before their next collection.
Residents may need to flatten cardboard and other packaging to save space. Recycling should be kept dry and secure until it can be placed outside again.
Anyone who cannot store the extra material may be able to use a local household waste recycling centre. Residents should check what materials are accepted before travelling.
Check Your Next Bin Collection
Collection dates can vary between streets, so residents are advised to confirm their next bin day using the council’s online postcode checker.
The council also publishes service updates when collections are delayed by issues such as roadworks, vehicle problems or difficult weather.
