MOD Police Carry Out Project Servator Operation

Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) officers have carried out a Project Servator deployment in Barrow town centre, working alongside local police and partner agencies.

The operation saw a visible police presence across key areas of the town, with officers engaging with members of the public and local businesses.

What Is Project Servator?

Project Servator is a policing approach designed to prevent and disrupt crime, including serious and organised activity.

It involves:

  • highly visible patrols
  • unpredictable deployments
  • both uniformed and plain-clothes officers

The aim is to deter criminal behaviour while also reassuring the public. Officers are specially trained to spot signs of suspicious activity and act quickly when needed.

Multi-Agency Approach

The Barrow operation involved cooperation between several agencies, reflecting a wider strategy of joint working across policing teams.

Previous deployments in the area have included:

  • Cumbria Police
  • British Transport Police
  • Civil Nuclear Constabulary
  • other specialist units

This approach allows officers to share intelligence and respond more effectively to potential threats.

Visible Presence in the Town Centre

Residents and visitors may have noticed an increased police presence during the operation.

Project Servator deployments are designed to be highly visible but unpredictable, meaning they can take place at any time and location.

Alongside patrols, officers may also:

  • carry out vehicle checks
  • use specialist equipment such as ANPR
  • speak directly with the public to gather information

What It Means for Barrow

The deployment is part of ongoing efforts to improve safety and reduce crime in Barrow.

By increasing visibility and working closely with the community, police aim to:

  • deter criminal activity
  • build public confidence
  • encourage people to report suspicious behaviour

Authorities have also reminded the public to report concerns by speaking to an officer or contacting police directly.

Looking Ahead

Project Servator operations are expected to continue across Barrow and other areas, with further deployments taking place at different times.

Police say the approach relies on both officers and the public working together to help keep communities safe.
