Motorbike Seized After Reports of Youth Riding at Speed in Barrow
A motorbike has been seized in Barrow after police received reports of a youth riding at speed.
The Furness Neighbourhood Policing Team and Unit 5 Response officers acted after information was passed on by local residents.
Police said the bike was seized as part of Operation Blackwater, an ongoing operation aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour linked to e-bikes and similar vehicles in Barrow.
The operation was launched earlier this year after concerns were raised about an increase in nuisance and dangerous riding in the town.
Residents Help Police Take Action
Police said information from members of the public played a key role in the latest seizure.
A spokesperson from the Furness Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “The rider may have been quick, but information from members of the public was quicker.
“Thank you to everyone who continues to report this behaviour – your information is making a real difference and helping us take action against those who put others at risk.
“Operation Blackwater remains very much open for business, and there are a few people who may want to keep an eye on their phones and front doors in the coming days.”
The comments suggest further action may follow as police continue to investigate reports linked to anti-social riding.
What Operation Blackwater Is Targeting
Operation Blackwater was set up in response to concerns about e-bikes, motorbikes and riders causing problems in Barrow.
Residents have raised issues around vehicles being ridden at speed, used in unsafe areas, or causing disruption in local communities.
Police have previously said these incidents can create risks for pedestrians, drivers and the riders themselves.
The latest seizure shows officers are still using information from the public to identify riders and take action where possible.
Why These Reports Matter
Anti-social riding can be difficult for police to deal with if officers are not in the right place at the right time.
Tip-offs from residents can help officers understand where bikes are being used, who may be involved and when problems are most likely to happen.
Police are encouraging people to continue reporting incidents rather than assuming nothing will be done.
Reports can also help build a wider picture of repeated behaviour, especially when the same areas, vehicles or riders are mentioned more than once.
Continued Focus in Barrow
The seizure will be welcomed by residents who have been affected by nuisance riding.
However, police have made clear that Operation Blackwater is still ongoing, with more enforcement expected.
The warning that some people may want to “keep an eye on their phones and front doors” suggests officers may already have further lines of enquiry.
Anyone with information about anti-social riding, dangerous use of e-bikes or nuisance motorbike activity in Barrow is being urged to contact police.
