Nando’s at Hollywood Park in Barrow Approved

approved nando plans for barrow

Plans for a new Nando’s restaurant at Hollywood Park in Barrow have been approved, moving the long-awaited arrival of the popular chicken chain another step closer.

The restaurant is planned for part of the Hollywood Park car park on Hindpool Road, close to Vue Cinema.

Westmorland and Furness Council has approved the application for a new restaurant building, changes to the existing parking and landscaping, and the creation of a delivery bay.

The application was submitted under reference B18/2025/0175.

New Restaurant at Hollywood Park

The plans involve building a purpose-made restaurant on land within Hollywood Park.

The development is intended to become a new Nando’s, bringing the chain’s well-known flame-grilled peri-peri chicken to Barrow.

Hollywood Park is already one of the town’s busiest retail and leisure areas. It is home to Vue Cinema and several major shops, restaurants and takeaways.

Its location next to the cinema could make the restaurant particularly popular with families, couples and groups looking for somewhere to eat before or after a film.

Changes to Parking and Landscaping

As well as the restaurant itself, the approved application includes alterations to the layout of the car park.

Some spaces will be lost to make room for the building, while the wider parking area will be reorganised. A separate delivery bay will also be provided to allow goods and supplies to reach the restaurant.

Landscaping work forms part of the plans, helping the new building fit into its surroundings within the retail park.

The official application describes the development as the erection of a restaurant within Class E(b), which covers the sale of food and drink mainly for customers eating on the premises.

Long-Awaited Arrival for Barrow

Many residents have called for a Nando’s to open in Barrow for years. There has even been a dedicated social media campaign supporting the idea.

The approval is therefore likely to be welcomed by those who currently travel outside the area to visit the chain.

It could also strengthen Hollywood Park’s evening offer. While the site already includes several places to eat, Nando’s would add another sit-down dining option alongside the cinema and surrounding leisure businesses.

New Jobs Could Be Created

The restaurant is also expected to create employment opportunities in Barrow.

Although no confirmed number of jobs has been announced, a new restaurant would normally require kitchen staff, front-of-house workers, supervisors, cleaners and managers.

Both full-time and part-time positions may become available closer to the opening.

When Will Barrow Nando’s Open?

An official opening date has not yet been confirmed.

Planning approval allows the development to move forward, but construction, fitting out and recruitment will still need to take place before the restaurant can welcome customers.

Further applications may also be required for details such as signs and branding around the new building.

Residents can view the application through the council’s Barrow Planning Hub using reference B18/2025/0175.

For now, the decision represents a major step forward for one of Barrow’s most requested restaurant arrivals.
