Overview of the Nao Santa María
The Nao Santa María is a full scale replica of Christopher Columbus’s flagship from the 15th century. This remarkable ship will arrive in Barrow on August 17th, 2026, and will be open to the public until August 31th. Lining up with the Summer Bank Holiday.
Historical Significance
The original Santa María was used by Columbus during his historic voyage across the Atlantic in 1492. The replica, built by the Fundación Nao Victoria, serves as a floating museum, offering visitors a chance to explore maritime history.
Construction and Design
Launched in 2018, the Nao Santa María measures approximately 30 metres in length and features five decks. Nearly 100 skilled craftsmen contributed to its construction, celebrating the 525th Anniversary of the Encounter between Two Worlds.
Global Tours and Public Engagement
Since its launch, the Nao Santa María has toured various locations in the United States and Europe, captivating thousands with its authentic representation of 15th-century Spanish shipbuilding. Visitors can learn about life on board during Columbus’s time.
