Ulverston bus shelter replaced after being damaged in collision
A bus shelter in Ulverston has been replaced after it was badly damaged when a vehicle crashed into it.
The shelter stands at the bottom of Oakwood Drive. The collision happened in March and left the structure in need of replacement.
New shelter installed
Ulverston Town Council has confirmed that the replacement shelter is now in place.
The new structure provides seating and cover for people waiting for buses at the Oakwood Drive stop.
Images shared by the council show a modern metal and glass shelter with blue detailing and the town’s coat of arms displayed on one of its panels.
Original shelter damaged in March
The previous shelter was damaged after a vehicle collided with it earlier this year.
The council announced at the time that it would need to be replaced. This meant passengers had less protection from rain and wind while waiting for services.
No further details have been released about the circumstances of the collision or whether anyone was injured.
Welcome return for bus passengers
Bus shelters can be especially important for older people, disabled passengers and anyone waiting during poor weather.
The completed work restores a covered waiting area at the stop and brings the location back into full use.
Ulverston Town Council said it was pleased to report that the replacement had been installed.

Town and parish councils can help maintain and improve local bus shelters, while highways and public transport responsibilities may be shared with the larger local authority.
Westmorland and Furness Council has also identified improving bus shelters and passenger information as possible uses for transport funding across the area.
The new Oakwood Drive shelter is now available for passengers following the wait for repairs and replacement work.
