The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is launching a new Hospitality Sector Work Academy Programme (SWAP) in Barrow this April. The programme aims to support unemployed individuals by providing training and job opportunities in the hospitality sector.
Designed in partnership with UK Hospitality and Furness College, the scheme offers industry-recognised certificates, CV and interview preparation, work experience, access to live job vacancies, and guaranteed interviews.
Programme Details and Support
The SWAP course runs over five weeks and equips participants with the skills needed to enter hospitality roles. It includes training accredited by recognised bodies, practical work experience, and personalised support for job applications.
Judith Wilkinson, DWP Partnership Manager, highlighted the importance of the programme in filling local vacancies and boosting confidence among jobseekers in Barrow.
Partnership with Furness College
Furness College plays a key role in delivering the course. Esme Taylor, Curriculum Leader for Hospitality, expressed excitement about the programme and its potential to help local residents re-enter the workforce.
The college has planned engaging activities throughout the five weeks to ensure the course is both enjoyable and valuable for participants.
Benefits for Jobseekers
Participants gain recognised qualifications and practical experience, improving their chances of securing sustainable employment in hotels, restaurants, venues, and visitor attractions across Barrow and the surrounding area.
The programme also offers direct access to current job vacancies and guarantees interviews, helping to open doors to new career opportunities.
