Man Jailed for Five Years After Repeated Cocaine Dealing Offences
A man has been jailed for five years after being caught dealing cocaine on multiple occasions. Including while he was already on bail.
Bradley Cowan, 22, of Lochinvar Close in Longtown near Carlisle, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court after admitting a series of drug-related offences.
During sentencing, the judge warned that drugs such as cocaine “destroy lives, communities and families”.
First Arrest After Police Pursuit
Cowan first came to the attention of police in May 2024 when officers spotted him riding an electric bike dangerously.
When police attended his home address, he attempted to run away but was arrested after a struggle.
Officers later found six wraps of cocaine and £460 in cash in his possession. Messages recovered from his phone also showed he was offering drugs for sale.
Offending While on Bail
Despite being released on bail, Cowan was again stopped by police in September 2024.
Staff at a bar in Carlisle reported that he was using drugs in a toilet, prompting officers to search him.
Police discovered £1,225 in cash, and CCTV footage showed him throwing a wrap of cocaine into a bin.
Further searches of his home uncovered plastic wrapping, cannabis, cash and traces of white powder, which prosecutors said were linked to drug dealing.
More Drugs Found During Later Search
In January, officers carried out another search of Cowan’s home.
They found a golf ball-sized bag of cocaine, weighing scales, around £500 in cash, and smaller bags containing cocaine and cannabis.
The evidence led Cowan to admit several offences, including:
-
being concerned in the supply of cocaine
-
two counts of possession of cocaine with intent to supply
-
possession of cannabis with intent to supply
-
possession of criminal property.
Judge Rejects Mental Health Defence
During the hearing, Cowan’s lawyer said he had experienced significant mental health problems throughout his life and had not received the support he needed at an earlier stage.
However, the judge said these issues could not justify involvement in the supply of Class A drugs.
Cowan was sentenced to five years in prison.
