Overnight closure planned for King Street in Ulverston

A section of King Street in Ulverston will close overnight next week while utility work is carried out.

The closure is planned for Tuesday, July 7, starting at 6.30pm and continuing until 5am the following morning.

BT Openreach is expected to carry out the work, which should take no more than one night.

Which part of King Street will close?

The closure will affect King Street from its junction with Upper Brook Street.

It will extend south along King Street for around 40 metres. Vehicles will not be allowed through the affected section while the work is underway.

Pedestrians and people pushing bicycles will still be able to pass through during the closure.

Diversion route

A signed diversion will be available for drivers.

The route will use:

  • Queen Street
  • The A590
  • The A5092
  • The B5281
  • King Street

Drivers travelling through Ulverston town centre during the evening should allow extra time and follow the temporary signs.

Why is the road closing?

The restriction is needed so utility work can be completed safely.

The council’s public notice says the closure could legally remain in force for longer if needed. However, the work is currently expected to affect only one night.

The timing has been arranged overnight to reduce disruption during the busier daytime period. Residents and businesses close to the affected section should expect some activity during the evening and early morning.
