Cannabis, THC pens and nitrous oxide seized in Penrith drugs crackdown
Police seized cannabis, THC vape pens, nitrous oxide and around £1,500 in cash during a drugs crackdown in Penrith.
Officers from the Eden Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out a day of action on Friday, July 10.
The operation targeted the suspected use and supply of drugs in the town. Both plain-clothes and uniformed officers took part.
Nine people stopped and searched
Police stopped and searched nine people during the operation.
One person was arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs.
Following the arrest, officers searched a property in Penrith. They recovered around 50 THC pens, a large amount of cannabis, nitrous oxide and approximately £1,500 in cash.
Police have not confirmed the exact amount of cannabis seized or provided an estimated street value for the drugs.
Suspect released under investigation
The arrested person was later released under investigation.
This means no charge has been announced at this stage, but police enquiries are continuing.
Officers may now examine the seized substances, cash and any other evidence recovered during the search before deciding what action should follow.
Two people given community resolutions
Two other people were found in possession of a Class B controlled drug.
They were dealt with through community resolutions rather than being taken to court.
Police said the resolutions would direct the individuals towards services designed to help address drug use.
However, officers warned that further offences could result in criminal prosecution.
What are THC pens?
THC pens are vaping devices which contain tetrahydrocannabinol, the main psychoactive chemical found in cannabis.
They can look similar to ordinary nicotine vapes, making them less obvious than other forms of cannabis.
The seizure of around 50 pens suggests officers recovered a significant supply during the property search.
Police have not said whether the products will undergo testing to confirm their strength or exact contents.
Nitrous oxide also recovered
Nitrous oxide was also found during the operation.
The gas is sometimes known as laughing gas and may be misused for its short-lived effects.
Police did not confirm how much was seized or whether it was stored in small canisters or larger cylinders.
Police targeting drug supply in Penrith
The day of action brought together visible patrols and officers working in plain clothes.
This approach allows police to speak with residents and businesses while also observing suspected drug activity without immediately drawing attention.
The operation resulted in one arrest, two community resolutions and the seizure of drugs, vape pens, nitrous oxide and cash.
Police enquiries remain ongoing, and no court proceedings have yet been announced.
