Police find no major speeding problem on Pategill Road in Penrith
Police say speeding is not currently a significant problem on Pategill Road in Penrith after installing a temporary monitoring device.
The Eden Neighbourhood Police Team placed a Speed Indication Device on the road following complaints from residents.
Pategill Road has a 20mph speed limit, with some people raising concerns that vehicles were travelling too fast through the estate.
Device records average speed of 18mph
Data gathered by the device showed that vehicles travelled at an average speed of 18mph.
The recorded 85th percentile speed was 22.6mph. This means 85 per cent of vehicles were travelling at or below that speed.
Based on the figures, officers said there was no evidence of a significant speeding issue on the road at present.
Police respond to residents’ concerns
The temporary device was installed after residents reported concerns about drivers exceeding the limit.
Police thanked people for raising the issue and said community reports help officers identify possible road safety problems.
The force said it would continue to monitor vehicle speeds and work to keep local roads safe.
Although the figures suggest most drivers are staying close to the limit, police have not ruled out further monitoring if new concerns are reported.
