Strong Effort from Barrow Raiders Ends in Defeat to London Broncos
Barrow Raiders produced a determined performance but were beaten 36–10 by London Broncos in their 1895 Cup preliminary round clash in London.
Despite the final scoreline, the Cumbrian side showed resilience against a strong Broncos team that is currently considered one of the favourites in the Championship.
Early Pressure from the Broncos
The match got off to a difficult start for Barrow when London opened the scoring just three minutes into the game. Epel Kapinias powered over for the first try, which was converted by Gairo Voro.
Barrow responded well midway through the first half when Tee Ritson crossed the line following a long pass from Ryan Johnston. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 6–4.
However, London regained control with two further tries before half-time. Liam Tindall intercepted a Barrow pass to score, before Elliot Wallis broke through several tackles to extend the lead.
At the break, the Broncos were 18–4 ahead.
Second Half Seals the Result
London continued to apply pressure in the second half, adding three more tries through Brandon Webster-Mansfield, Marcus Stock and Lewis Bienek.
Barrow kept battling and were rewarded late in the game when Ritson scored his second try in the 77th minute. Brad Walker converted to bring the Raiders’ total to ten points.
Brave Performance Despite the Scoreline
Although the Raiders were ultimately outscored, they produced a spirited effort with a squad that had been affected by injuries.
Barrow defended strongly at times against a physical London side but struggled with handling errors when in possession, which proved costly during key moments of the match.
The result sees London Broncos progress in the 1895 Cup, while Barrow turn their attention back to upcoming fixtures as they look to build on the fight shown in the capital.
