Tesco has begun installing Evri-branded parcel lockers at a small number of its Extra and Superstore locations, including Barrow. This move is part of a broader locker hub trial that brings together multiple parcel delivery providers within Tesco stores, aiming to offer customers greater convenience and more service options.

The trial builds on Tesco’s existing partnership with Evri, which allows shoppers to earn Clubcard points when sending parcels via the delivery firm. The initiative reflects Tesco’s ongoing efforts to integrate more features into its physical stores and enhance the overall shopping experience.

Details of the Locker Hub Trial

The locker hub trial involves installing Evri parcel lockers at 30 Tesco stores, with 23 already live. These lockers provide customers with an alternative way to send, collect, and return parcels, complementing Tesco’s existing parcel services. A Tesco spokesperson highlighted the company’s commitment to making shopping trips more convenient through this small-scale trial.

Liam Rogan, head of ParcelShop and Locker Network at Evri, emphasised the partnership’s role in offering customers a choice of quality delivery methods. The trial is expected to inform whether a wider rollout of Evri lockers across Tesco’s estate will follow.

Additional Parcel Locker Services

Earlier in March, Tesco also announced a trial of Royal Mail parcel lockers at select stores, including Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Barrow, Burnham-on-Sea, Bury, Cullompton, Horwich, March, Preston, and Salisbury. These lockers operate alongside Tesco’s InPost parcel lockers, providing customers with multiple options for sending, collecting, and returning parcels.

The Royal Mail lockers offer label printing services for customers unable to print labels at home. To use these lockers, customers must pay for postage online and obtain a QR code, which is required for parcel collection or returns.

Conclusion

Tesco’s expansion of Evri parcel lockers and the introduction of Royal Mail lockers demonstrate the retailer’s commitment to enhancing customer convenience through innovative parcel services. The ongoing trials will help determine the feasibility of a broader rollout, potentially transforming how customers interact with parcel delivery services at Tesco stores.
