Three day road closure planned for Holborn Hill in Millom

A section of Holborn Hill in Millom is set to close for three days in July while planned utility work is carried out.

The closure will affect the road between its junctions with Moor Road and Festival Road.

Cumberland Council intends to introduce a temporary traffic regulation order, with the restriction due to begin on July 1.

Although the legal order can remain in place for up to 18 months, the council expects the actual closure to last for around three days.

The road will only be closed when signs confirming the restriction are displayed.

Diversion route for motorists

Drivers will not be able to travel through the affected section of Holborn Hill while the closure is active.

A signed diversion will take motorists along other parts of Holborn Hill before continuing via Station Road, St George’s Street and the A5903.

People travelling through Millom during the works may need to allow extra time for their journeys.

Nearby roads could also become busier while traffic is moved away from the closed section.

Drivers should follow the temporary signs and avoid relying only on satellite navigation, as some systems may not show the closure immediately.

Access will remain for pedestrians

Pedestrians will still be able to pass through the affected area during the work.

Cyclists will also retain access, although they will need to dismount and walk their bikes through the closure.

The council has not provided further details about the exact utility work being completed.

The restriction is being introduced to allow the work to take place safely while protecting workers and members of the public.

Access arrangements for individual properties may depend on where the work is taking place at the time.

Closure expected to last three days

The temporary order gives the council flexibility in case the work is delayed or needs to be rearranged.

However, officials expect Holborn Hill to be closed for only three days from July 1.

The restriction will end once the utility work is complete and the road is safe to reopen.

Weather, unexpected site conditions or other issues could affect the timetable.

Residents and motorists should check for signs in the area before travelling, as these will confirm when the closure is active.

How to ask about the work

Anyone with questions about the closure can contact Cumberland Council’s Highways Hotline on 0300 373 3736.

Information may also be available through the Cumberland Council website.

People contacting the council should quote the reference number TTROC/18669.

This will help staff identify the correct road closure and provide the latest available information.
