A66 Roadworks: Full Breakdown of Closures
Drivers in West Cumbria are being warned of upcoming disruption as two months of roadworks are scheduled on part of the A66 between Great Broughton and the Fitz roundabout.
National Highways will carry out resurfacing work, new road markings and drainage repairs along the route.
To reduce daytime disruption, most of the work will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am.
The project is due to begin Monday 16 March and is expected to finish by 15 May.
During the works, lane closures, temporary traffic lights and convoy working will be used to manage traffic.
Where the Work Is Taking Place
The work will focus on the A66 between Great Broughton and the Fitz roundabout near Cockermouth.
This section of road is an important route connecting communities across West Cumbria.
Diversions and Road Closures
Some sections of the route will require temporary closures while work is carried out.
Great Broughton Junction
Tuesday 7 April – Friday 10 April (three nights)
Traffic will be diverted via:
- A66 towards Fitz Roundabout
- A595 Papcastle Roundabout
- A594
- C2037 towards Broughton Moor
- C2007
Brigham Junction
Friday 10 April – Wednesday 15 April (three weekday nights)
Diversion routes will include:
- A66 trunk road
- C2007
- C2065 School Brow
Easter Break in Roadworks
Traffic management will be temporarily lifted over the Easter period to reduce disruption.
The restrictions will then restart on Tuesday 7 April.
