Ulverston Leisure Centre Pool Closes for Two Weeks for Essential Repairs

Ulverston Leisure Centre’s swimming pool has closed for two weeks while essential repair work is carried out.

The pool on Priory Road will be unavailable from Monday, 10 August until Monday, 24 August 2026.

A leak has been found in the pipework serving the pool. Contractors now need to replace the affected section to allow the facility to continue operating safely.

Essential Pipework Repairs Required

The temporary closure was announced in advance by Better, which operates Ulverston Leisure Centre.

In an update to customers, the operator said: “Essential repair work is required to replace a section of pipework serving the swimming pool.”

The work is expected to take around two weeks. However, swimmers may wish to check for further updates before returning after 24 August in case the schedule changes.

The centre has apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience while the repairs take place.

Further information about the closure is available through the Ulverston Leisure Centre website.

Other Leisure Centre Facilities Remain Open

The closure only applies to the swimming pool. All other facilities and activities at Ulverston Leisure Centre are expected to remain open as normal unless customers are told otherwise.

These include:

  • The gym
  • Indoor and outdoor tennis courts
  • Group exercise classes
  • Badminton and pickleball facilities
  • Outdoor pitches and courts
  • The 3G football pitch

Anyone planning to use the centre should still check the latest timetable before travelling.

Ulverston Leisure Centre is home to a 25-metre pool that normally hosts lane swimming, swimming lessons and aqua exercise sessions throughout the week.

Alternative Swimming Available in Kendal

Customers who want to continue swimming during the closure have been directed to Kendal Leisure Centre.

Better describes Kendal as the nearest available swimming pool during the repair period. Visitors should check its timetable and booking requirements before setting off, as sessions may be busier while Ulverston’s pool is unavailable.

The timing of the closure may be frustrating for families, as it falls during the school summer holidays. However, replacing the damaged pipework is considered necessary to protect the pool and ensure it can operate safely in the future.

Ulverston Leisure Centre can be contacted on 01229 584110 or by emailing ulverston.leisure@gll.org.

The pool is expected to remain closed until 24 August, with further information likely to be shared by the leisure centre if the repair timetable changes.
