The monthly Barrow litter pick was rescheduled due to adverse weather conditions, but still saw a strong turnout of 43 volunteers from various local businesses and organisations. Together, they collected 61 bags of rubbish, demonstrating community spirit and commitment to maintaining a clean town centre.
Organised by Barrow Business Improvement District (BID) and Barrow Rising, the event highlights the ongoing efforts to improve the local environment through collective action.
Rescheduling Due to Weather
The litter pick was originally planned for Thursday, 12 March, but was postponed to Monday, 16 March due to a yellow weather warning for wind and rain. The rescheduling ensured the safety of volunteers while maintaining the momentum of the monthly community initiative.
Community Participation
On the rescheduled date, 43 volunteers participated in the event. They represented a diverse range of local businesses and organisations, including Corrie and Co, Hotel Imperial, Furness Multi-Cultural Community Forum and Youth Club, and Furness Building Society. This broad involvement reflects the strong community engagement in Barrow.
Impact of the Litter Pick
The volunteers collected a total of 61 bags of rubbish from the streets of Barrow town centre. This significant effort contributes to a cleaner and more welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.
Organisers’ Appreciation
Barrow BID expressed gratitude to the volunteers on social media, stating: “A massive thank you to the 43 volunteers who came out to today’s Barrow Rising Community Litter Pick! By working together we can make a real difference and keep Barrow town centre looking its best!”
