Walk to Remember 2026 Sells Out Ahead of Ulverston to Barrow Event

St Mary’s Hospice’s Walk to Remember 2026 has sold out ahead of this year’s event.

The popular fundraising walk will take place on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Participants will set off from Ulverston Leisure Centre before making their way towards Barrow, finishing at Furness Academy.

The event raises money for St Mary’s Hospice, which provides care and support for people with life-limiting conditions, as well as their families and loved ones.

Organisers say the 2026 walk is set to be one of the biggest yet, with the event selling out for the second year running.

A Popular Local Fundraising Event

Walk to Remember has become one of the best-known fundraising events in the Furness area.

It gives people the chance to walk in memory of loved ones while supporting hospice care in the local community.

Many people take part with family, friends, colleagues or community groups. Others walk alone but join hundreds of others who are all remembering someone special.

The event is not a race. It is designed to be a shared evening of remembrance, support and fundraising.

Route From Ulverston to Barrow

The full Walk to Remember route is just under 10 miles.

Walkers will start at Ulverston Leisure Centre before heading along the A590 towards Dalton.

The route then continues through Dalton, onto Abbey Road, and finishes at Furness Academy in Barrow.

Finish times will depend on walking pace and how long people stop along the way. Many walkers are expected to complete the route between around 10.30pm and 11.45pm.

A shorter five-mile option is also available for 2026.

Registration and Start Times

Registration will take place at Ulverston Leisure Centre between 6pm and 7.30pm.

Organisers are advising people not to leave registration too late, as some areas can become busy.

There will also be activities and stalls before the walk begins, including headwear, face glitter and T-shirt personalisation.

A warm-up is planned for 7.45pm before walkers set off.

Food and drink stands are also expected to be available on the event field before the walk starts.

Remembering Loved Ones

One of the most important parts of Walk to Remember is the chance to pay tribute to loved ones.

The event gives people a way to remember someone while doing something positive for the hospice.

There will be rest stops along the route, including a refreshment stop at Our Lady’s School in Dalton.

Organisers say this stop will also include a special way for walkers to pay tribute to someone they are remembering.

For many families, the event is both emotional and uplifting.

Safety Message for Walkers

St Mary’s Hospice has reminded participants to stay safe during the event.

Walkers must stay off the road and use the route provided. Anyone seen walking in the road may be disqualified from the event.

The hospice says this rule is in place to protect walkers, other people and motorists.

Police are expected to be in attendance on the evening.

Young people aged 16 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult. This will be checked at registration.

Fundraising for St Mary’s Hospice

All money raised from Walk to Remember supports the work of St Mary’s Hospice.

The hospice has asked adult walkers to aim for a minimum sponsorship total of £35 per person.

Supporters can fundraise online or use paper sponsorship forms.

The money raised helps the hospice continue providing care across the local community.

This includes support for patients, families and carers at some of the most difficult times in their lives.

Fancy Dress and Team Walking

Participants are welcome to wear fancy dress or add decorations to their outfits.

Many walkers choose flashing headwear, bright clothing or personalised T-shirts.

Some people add photos, names or messages in memory of loved ones.

Groups of five or more can register as a team. This can make the evening easier to organise and gives families, friends and workplaces a way to walk together.

Event Sponsored by Orsted

The 2026 Walk to Remember is being sponsored by Orsted for the ninth year running.

The support helps St Mary’s Hospice deliver the event and welcome walkers from across the area.

Last year’s event saw around 1,250 walkers take part.

Organisers have said their aim for 2026 is to make this year’s Walk to Remember the biggest and best yet.

A Special Night for Ulverston, Dalton and Barrow

The event will bring together people from across Ulverston, Dalton, Barrow and the wider Furness area.

As walkers move along the route, they will be raising money, remembering loved ones and supporting a vital local charity.

Although places have now sold out, the event is still expected to attract support from families, friends and local residents along the route.

For St Mary’s Hospice, Walk to Remember remains an important night of remembrance, community spirit and fundraising.
