A road in West Cumbria remains closed following a landslip, with safety concerns continuing for both drivers and pedestrians.
The C4014 at Rothersyke, near Egremont, was first shut to vehicles after part of the embankment gave way earlier this month.
Closure Extended for Safety
The closure has now been widened to include pedestrians, after further movement in the surrounding land raised concerns about stability.
Cumberland Council has urged people to stay away from the area, as the risk of additional slippage remains.
Investigation Work Ongoing
Engineers are currently carrying out investigations to determine:
-
what caused the landslip
-
how stable the area is
-
what repairs may be needed
At this stage, no timeline has been confirmed for when the road might reopen.
Disruption for Local Area
The continued closure is likely to affect:
-
local travel routes
-
access for nearby residents
-
rural connectivity in the Egremont area
With no confirmed reopening date, disruption could continue while assessments and any required repair work are completed.
Looking Ahead
For now, the priority remains safety while experts assess the site.
Further updates are expected once investigations are complete and a clearer plan for repairs is in place.
