Police investigate smashed window at Ulverston Royal Mail sorting office
Police are appealing for information after a window was smashed at the Royal Mail sorting office in Ulverston.
The damage happened at the Cross Street site at around 9.20pm on Friday, June 12.
Cumbria Police received a report from a member of the public after the broken window was discovered.
A group of young people was reportedly playing football in the area at the time of the incident. However, police have not confirmed who caused the damage or whether it was deliberate.
Officers are now asking anyone who witnessed what happened or has information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
Damage reported on Friday evening
The incident took place at the Royal Mail sorting office on Cross Street, close to Ulverston town centre.
Sorting offices are used to process and distribute mail before it is taken out for delivery. They are separate from public Post Office branches, where customers can send parcels, buy stamps and access other services.
No information has been released about whether the damage affected Royal Mail services or caused disruption to local deliveries.
There have also been no reports of anyone being injured during the incident.
Young people reportedly playing nearby
Police said a group of young people had been playing football at the location when the window was broken.
It has not been confirmed whether the ball struck the window accidentally, whether someone deliberately caused the damage or whether the group was directly involved.
Officers will need to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident before deciding whether any further action should be taken.
Anyone who was in the Cross Street area around 9.20pm may have seen or heard something relevant.
Residents and businesses with doorbell cameras, CCTV or other recordings from the area may also hold footage that could help officers establish what happened.

Cumbria Police is asking anyone with information about the smashed window to submit a report through the force’s website.
